Current Tech News: Texting Can Hurt
While we have been discussing wonderful new developments in technology, we should be aware that our favorite "gadgets" can bring us problems as well as fun and enjoyment . It's no secret that teens love to use their cell phones to send lots of text messages to their friends and family. Click here to watch a current news item about a potential text messaging hazard and read the accompanying article Teen Gets Carpal Tunnel from Texting to learn more about the problem.
Return here to find out what exactly is "carpal tunnel syndrome?" Watch this video for a clear explanation of this painful condition.
How many text messages do you send a day? week? month? Do you know someone (no names, please) who sends as many text messages a week as Annie Levitz does?

I think that people have no social life text that much I also think that some teenagers should be restricted how many texts they send a day......I also think that some kids should not get a phone unless they are responsible enough to have one. =)
ReplyDeleteI would love to point out that they have no life to attend if they text that much per day, and per month. It's outstanding how much people can text a day. I find it a future reference and an example of life. Why?
ReplyDeleteA: Because, I never text that much a day. I only text around 20-30 a day. So that I know that if you text 100 texts PER DAY, you will end up with carpel tunnel if you text continuously.
Not healthy, and should be lowered down to 50 texts per day. Or even less. Even less would probably be a better advice to start off with.
But the video you have showed us, was an importance of life and will be remembered throughout anyones life.
-Take Care
I don't see why everyone needs to freak out about ONE girl getting carpal tunnel. Thats only ONE person, and millions of teens have phones. Thats like a one in a million chance that it will happen to you.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe that it is cause of the text she sent. I honestly think she just got it from doing other things in life. When you text it can cause syndromes but i don't think it can cause carpel tunnel.
ReplyDeletei think that it could end up being a serious matter. i don't think it would happen to some one who drinks alot of milk to build up bones if you get carpole tunnel from texting then u should just stay inside and live a life of solitude
ReplyDeletei think the issue of texting to much is serious because we get carple tunnel from it. so we should stop texting so much or invent a phone that will text for youi
ReplyDeleteI think that it is a serious issue but it can be treated threw time with you get it. It would be good for kids and teens to cut back on texting but I don't think that it's going to happen anytime soon. I don't think it will be a problem.
ReplyDeleteI have a phone but i barely ever use it. I think its more fun to be talking in person. I only text when I'm bored or if I need to tell someone something. I don't think everyone needs to freak out about a few teenagers getting it. They shouldn't have a phone because they aren't responsible. Its their fault.
ReplyDeletei think that she was one of the millions of kids that have carpel tunnel.. like a friend said there is one chance that u could have it.. there is no reason that you should txt that much either get a life!!! people and put down the phone
ReplyDeleteI send about thirty texts a day on average and the most is fifty. I do not know anyone that has sent as many texts as Annie texts in one day. I think it would be really hard to send as many texts a day as Annie Levitz does. I usually see most of my friends a lot during the day so I don't need to text them all the time.
ReplyDeleteI think the chances are slim that you'll ever get carpel tunnel from texting.Even if it did, it wouldn't stop people from texting at all.No one is going to freak out about it just because of this article.
ReplyDeleteWOW!!! Big deal one girl, I guarantee that for her to have gotten carpal tunnel she had to text way more than 100 texts a day. Personally I text at least 500 texts a day and i have no problems. Anyone who gets carpal tunnel has to send like 1000 texts a day because with about 500 a day I have no issues. Anyways carpal tunel isnt gonna kill her.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that an average person would text so much. Carpal tunnel will probably not happen again for a while and it won't happen a lot. People can get what they want from the video, but I dont think that this will happen in a while. They shouldn't make such a big deal that one person got it. Millions have phones.
ReplyDeleteI don't see what the big deal on this is. I mean yea this girl abused texting privileges but one girl getting this syndrome is nothing. One person in your school might get cancer, that doesn't mean everyone will. It even said in the video that carpel tunnel was almost unheard of in teens. So, maybe yea, you could lighten up on texting, but in my opinion, I think that even if you don't, I think you will be perfectly fine. This one girl might have got this from something else along with texting anyways. So, no worries about getting carpel tunnel from texting.
ReplyDeleteI do not have a phone though I use my friends phone sometimes.I don't really ask or know of any one who send that many texts. It could just be that person and she could of had something wrong with her to begin with that the doctors didn't know about but you never know.
ReplyDeleteI have a phone and I usually text about 20 a day. Texting not only causes carpel tunnel but it can also affect your eye sight too. I think teens should set limits to how much they text because it takes you away from having fun away from your phone and it can make you unhealthy. It's a really slim chance that you could get carpel tunnel but you should still be careful about how much you text.
ReplyDeleteI think that I send about a hundred or more texts a day. I know someone who does send a lot of texts which is probably more than Annie Levitz texts a day. I don't think that there is anything to worry about because there are about a million things that can give you cancer. Doctors aren't even sure if she got it from too much texting.
ReplyDeleteI dont think it's a big deal because it's one girl and honestly I send about 500 texts a day . And I send about 1,000 a week maybe more but I dont count. Honestly it can happen to anyone and how do they know that texting caused it . She may have just had problems that she never noticed and texting made them worse. I text all the time and my hands dont hurt . I know a lot of people who text more than her they are all fine. She may just have something passed down from an ancestor or something. I agree with people when they say its NO BIG DEAL because it's not.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that it is a big of an issue unless everyone started to get carpal tunnel then yeah it would be a big deal. I don't have a cell phone but when I us a friends phone I text a lot. It is just one girl out of so many people. How would you now if she got it from texting. I seriously don't understand why when one girl gets carpal tunnel they assume it is from texting. It could be anything she has done unless texting is her hole life. I think that the kids at her school have made such a small thing into such a big issue. But why?
ReplyDeleteI don't think that this is really going to be such a big deal. This is the only person i have heard of that this happend to. I know people that send a bunch more than that a month and nothing is wrong with them. So i really don't get what the big deal is. I do have a phone and i text all the time, and i don't got anything wrong. So just because it happend to one person don't mean nohing.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that teens should text that much. I think that there parents should put a text limit on there phones. They could text that much but i dont see why you even text when you can just call them and talk to them. I also agree with Conner it is like a one in a million chance you will get it because i have not seen any other teens on the news or on t.v at all.But i still think that teens or not teens no one should be texting that much.
ReplyDeleteThats what i think about the carpal tunnel syndrome.
I send over 100 text messages a day.In about a week I send over 500. And in about a month I would send over 1,000 text. I do not know anyone that sends as many text message a week as Annie. I think it would be kind of tiring to text that much in one week.I think it is also kind of ridiculous how people are making such a big deal out of one girl getting carpel tunnel.
ReplyDeleteI do think that this is a big deal, but i don't think that anyone will care. Just because we are teenagers, most teens do text a lot. I also don't think that Carpel Tunnel will happen a lot, but I do think people could cut their amount of text messages down.
ReplyDeleteOk, So I'm the type of person that texts a lot! Last mouth I had over 10,000 text messages, which I know is not good at all. But, I'm perfectly fine! This girl only sent 4,000! Honesty, I don't think that texting can cause a disease. Well if your not doing anything but texting I can see how if can effect your life, but not that drastically. I don't see the big deal about this one girl! Hello, millions of people text! Yeah I should probably cut back, but oh well! Its not a big deal people! Chill!
ReplyDeleteI don't think that it's a big deal, most kids just sit there and text during school and all. You don't see anybody in our school with the syndrome. A lot of kids send like five thousand to ten thousand messages a day. I send like three text a day. I talk to people enough at school. You don't expect me to be a funny guy here and there do you?
ReplyDeleteI think that this could end up to be a serious problem in the future for people who text that much a day. There is probably more than one person who has gotten carpal tunnel because of texting but I think this can be prevented by not texting so much and set a limit to how much you text. I don't think this is the only person who has had this happened to them.
ReplyDeleteI think that it really is not a serious issue. This girl got carpel tunnel from not texting but I think it was from using the computer to much>
ReplyDeleteThings like this always get blown out of proportion. So what one girl got carpal tunnel. Oh my gosh, I'm gonna die. That's like one person in a million. Personally, I don't think it would matter if a lot of people got it. I'd still text a lot. I live my life how i want to.
ReplyDeleteI think that yes, it is a big deal, but i don't think that anyone will stop texting because of just the one girl getting carpel tunnel. Although, I do think that we should probably cut back on some of the text messages that we send. Also, I doubt that anyone will be afraid or worried about getting carpel tunnel. I know that I probably will text just the same amount as I normally do.
ReplyDeleteThis syndrome is a very big deal, like Katelyn said. Its very harmful to your systems in your hands, including muscles, tendons, and your bones. Its very painful too, I can imagine. I do text a lot on some days, but not all. I also think that many people will keep texting though, even though they heard of this disease.
ReplyDeleteYou most likeily wolnt get carpel tunnel from texting, especially if you are a teen. The guy explaining carpel tunnel said it is rare in teens. I think she got it from something else.
ReplyDeleteFor tht third time of typeing this. I said I dont text much because my phone is broke but i am getting a new phone today so i will have to watch myself. my mom has carpol tunnel or how ever you spell it but she didnt get it from texting.
ReplyDeleteI dont text that much, I haven't texted in about 5 months because my phone was deactivated. I find texting pointless though and boring. But still that much wow she must not call people. But I'm not worried about it because I dont text much and it wasn't me
ReplyDeleteI send about 50 messages a day. With people i know it doesnt sound like she sends that much. I didnt even know what carpal tunnel was until I read this. I dont think i will send as much as i do anymore.
